While it may be best known as Germany’s financial capital, Frankfurt has a world of museums, restaurants and historical landmarks just waiting to be discovered. Art fans can choose from over 50 exhibition centres, holding everything from contemporary art sculptures and paintings, and there are cultural landmarks everywhere you look. Also known as ‘Mainhattan’ the city is home to one of the world’s largest stock exchanges, with gleaming glass buildings and modern architecture aplenty. But that’s not to say there isn’t a harmonious balance of old and new – for a more traditional affair, head to the quaintly medieval Altstadt, where apple wine taverns, outdoor cafes and riverside paths await. And that’s not all – come December, the city is home to one of Europe’s most spectacular Christmas markets.
